Regular membership

$650. +Monthly Dues. (Non-Refundable Membership Fee)

As a Regular Member, you gain full access to our community and fleet. This includes complimentary flight instruction from our certified club instructors and no hourly rental fees for our club gliders—your only direct cost for flying is the tow to altitude.

This access is granted through a one-time, non-refundable initiation fee. This fee can be comfortably budgeted over the first six months at a rate of $100 per month.

In addition to the initiation fee, all members contribute to the club's operational stability through monthly dues. These dues are essential for covering fixed costs such as aircraft insurance, tie-down fees, and a dedicated maintenance fund to ensure our gliders remain in peak condition. Furthermore, all pilots must maintain a current membership with the Soaring Society of America (SSA) for insurance and regulatory purposes.

Please note: All membership applications are subject to board approval to ensure a good fit for our community.

Regular Membership

Long Distance membership

$650. +monthly dues. (Non-Refundable Membership Fee)

Our Long-Distance Membership is designed for aviation enthusiasts who reside more than 120 miles from our home airfield in Saratoga Springs but wish to enjoy our soaring facilities. We understand that you may not be able to visit weekly, so this membership offers a reduced dues structure while providing full, unrestricted access to fly our fleet of Grob gliders during your visits.

To maintain this specialized status, members must continue to reside outside the 120-mile radius and pay the current long-distance dues rate. All members must hold a valid Soaring Society of America (SSA) membership for insurance purposes. As with all memberships, this requires initial approval from the club's board to ensure a mutual fit.

TEMPORARY TOW MEMBERSHIP: This category is for visiting pilots (residing 120+ miles away) to receive tows for their own sailplane. Applicants must be members of both another soaring club and the SSA. A surcharge of $20 ($10 fee + $10 hook-up) is applied to the standard tow rate. Board approval required.

Long Distance Membership

Junior membership

$250. +monthly dues. (Non-Refundable Membership Fee)

Our Junior Membership is a foundational program designed for young aviation enthusiasts aged 13 to 21. This non-voting membership provides an affordable and immersive pathway into the world of gliding. The core of the program is a "learn by doing" ethos; in exchange for unparalleled access to our aircraft and instruction, Junior Members are expected to be active participants in club operations, assisting with essential flight line and aircraft maintenance duties.

This hands-on involvement fosters a deep understanding of aviation safety and camaraderie. As a Junior Member, you will receive:

  • Complimentary Flight Instruction from our certified instructors.
  • No Hourly Charge for flight time in our club gliders (tow fees not included).

Membership requires payment of reduced monthly junior dues, which cover insurance, tiedown, and maintenance, as well as a mandatory membership with the Soaring Society of America (SSA). When ready to assume full voting rights and responsibilities, a Junior Member can seamlessly upgrade to a Regular Membership by paying the $400 initiation fee difference. All applications are subject to board approval.

Towpilot Membership

Power Your Passion for Flight
No Membership Fee, just Annual SSA membership Dues

This specialized membership is designed for certified pilots who wish to support the club's operations by providing essential aerotows. As a Tow Pilot, you are entrusted with operating the club-leased towplane and are granted flying privileges for it. To qualify, you must hold a valid pilot certificate with the appropriate ratings and undergo a club check-out.

This role also serves as a pathway to full soaring participation. While this membership allows you to fly the towplane, an upgrade to a Shareholding Member is required for unsupervised solo flight in the club's gliders. All Tow Pilot candidates require board approval and must maintain a current membership with the Soaring Society of America (SSA).
