The Art of flying
A Sailplane

The art and joy of soaring sailplanes out of Saratoga County Airport in Saratoga Springs, New York

The Instruments

A glider instrument panel displays essential flight information such as airspeed, altitude, and vertical speed, along with navigation tools needed to maintain flight.

Motorless Flying

These aircraft are not tube and fabric hang-gliders but are rigid wing, fully certified sailplanes that can weigh 1,000 pounds or more with advanced flying capabilities.

The Tow Plane

Sailplanes are towed aloft by a powered aircraft then released at approximately 2,000 feet.

Staying Aloft

The sailplane flight can be as short as 15 minutes, but flights as long as 10 hours have been accomplished. We use the natural air currents to stay aloft...
